BUGABOO PRODUCT RECALL

Bugaboo Cameleon + Graco® Car Seat installed with adapters (models 80401GC02 & 80400GC01) + Wheeled Board model 85500WB01

Important Safety Instruction

August, 2011

Bugaboo has learned that incorrect use of a Graco Car Seat installed with adapters (models 80401GC02 & 80400GC01) on a Bugaboo Cameleon in combination with a Wheeled board model 85500WB01 (on the market since August 2009) can cause a safety risk. If the Graco Car Seat with adapters is installed on the Bugaboo Cameleon with the child facing the world, the aforementioned Wheeled Board - when not in use in either down or upright position – can potentially flip upwards and hit the release button of the Graco Car Seat. This can cause the seat to come loose and fall.

The Graco Car Seat with adapters must therefore at all times be installed on the Bugaboo Cameleon in the only correct way: with the child facing the parent (as shown below).

The risk does not occur in other Bugaboo strollers/ car seat combinations.

We expect this particular combination of events to occur very rarely. However, we have established that communication on the correct use of the Graco Car Seat with adapters on the Bugaboo Cameleon has to be much more explicit, so customers / users can make no mistake on how to properly use the Graco Car Seat with adapters on the Bugaboo Cameleon.

In order to do this we have produced and distributed a warning label. An example of that label is shown above. Those customers that have registered their car seat adapters with us will receive a letter and the warning label kit from us. This includes a warning sticker with illustrations on the correct use of the Graco Car Seat with adapters on the Bugaboo Cameleon (as shown above). Customers that have not registered their car seat adapters can contact our Customer Services if they wish to receive the warning label kit. The Graco Car Seat with adapters must therefore at all times be installed on the Bugaboo Cameleon in the only correct way: with the child facing the parent

  • You talk about incorrect use. Are you saying that there is room for a mistake being made?

We know that the correct way to install the Graco Car Seat + adapters on the Bugaboo Cameleon is with the child facing the parent. If the Graco Car Seat + adapters (models 80401GC02 & 80400GC01) are installed on the Bugaboo Cameleon with the child facing the world, the Wheeled board model 85500WB01 (on the market since August 2009) - when not in use in either down or upright position – can potentially flip upwards and hit the release button of the Graco Car Seat. This can cause the seat to come loose and fall. We want to ensure our instructions for safe use of our products are clear and leave no room for interpretation. That is why we have taken additional precautionary measures.

  • Has Bugaboo been negligent in informing parents on the right instruction of use?

Bugaboo has at all times informed parents (sufficiently) on the safe and correct use of the Bugaboo Cameleon and Car Seats. But we have to ensure the user instructions leave no room whatsoever for interpretation or variations on the use, other than as can be found in the manual. We will therefore communicate more explicitly on the correct and safe use. As the safety and wellbeing of our customers and their children is always paramount to Bugaboo, we have decided to take appropriate additional precautionary measures.

  • Why do the adapters not prevent incorrect placement of the Graco Car Seat on the Bugaboo Cameleon, which can easily lead parents to think that placing the seat facing the world is ok. Are you going to make technical changes to these adapters so that in the future incorrect placement is prevented?

As the adapters do not prevent incorrect placement of the Graco Car Seat on the Bugaboo Cameleon, this can lead parents to assume that facing the world is also a correct way of installing the Graco Car Seat + adapters (models 80401GC02 & 80400GC01) on the Cameleon. We will therefore redesign the adapters or design an extra shield for the Graco Car Seat to protect the release button.

  • Does this risk occur with all Bugaboo strollers?

The risk does not occur in other Bugaboo strollers/ car seat combinations.

  • Does this risk occur with the Bugaboo Frog or the Bugaboo Gecko?

No this risk does not occur when you use either a Bugaboo Frog or a Bugaboo Gecko in combination with a Graco Car Seat + adapters (models 80401GC02 & 80400GC01) and the Wheeled board model 85500WB01 (on market since August 2009).

  • Is there a risk in using the adapters (models 80401GC02 & 80400GC01) and Wheeled Board model 85500WB01 (on market since August 2009) individually and in and of themselves?
