5 questions to Marie Courroy
At Bugaboo, we love to connect with parents who inspire us.
We recently spent a morning with Marie Courroy, founder of the brand Mode Trotter, and took the opportunity to ask her a few questions about her daily life, her family life and her aspirations.
She tells us about her life in her newly renovated house with her partner Edouard Dumond, and about their life together with their children Java and Robinson.
What made you want to leave Paris?
"I wanted space and not to put all my money into rent or repayment. I wanted a quality of life, that is to say, to have a roof over my head and air, and to have a little money left over to travel or go away for the weekend. Today I open my window and my children play outside while I prepare food, they climb trees or play with their wheelbarrow. When we go shopping we stop in front of the horses. This outdoor life is a dream for me with little ones."
What does this house mean to you?
"It already represents a lot of time ahaha. Edouard did a lot of things himself, and that takes time. I learned patience, I wanted it finished in 2 months. Today we take the time to think about the layout first and then the decoration. I used to do the opposite! This house is a mix of Edouard and me. We wanted it to be soft, bright (light is very important to me), we wanted it to have an ocean feel, to remind us a bit of a vacation home. It is already full of memories. I like curves, I don't like right angles. So it has a lot of curves ahah and it gives it the softness needed for a cocoon.
The concrete bookcase is super important because we love books. It's the centerpiece of the living room."
What are your days like as a family?
"The kids' nanny lives 200 yards from us, just past a field. So what I like to do is pick them up and go for a long walk around the field for an hour or so before coming home. I also love to ride my cargo bike with my two little ones in the carrier and ride around the country roads. I love cooking for them and making sure they eat well. I love to watch them play in the garden while I cook, no matter what the weather is like.
A pretty simple life, but one that I cherish every moment."
Many people know you as the founder of the Mode Trotter brand. What inspires you on a daily basis?
"The silence, the calm and the good air regenerate me. It's not a particular inspiration, it's more like a permanent inspiration because it's an almost bodily well-being. It is important to feel good in order to let your mind escape. We sleep well in the countryside, so being in shape is not inspiring, but it is essential to my inspiration"
Finally, we had the chance to spend a little time with Robinson. If you had to choose a character trait to represent him, what would it be?
"Holalala, so him with his cute little face, he's a little rascal! I'd say mischievous."
