The Postpartum Period: Your Time for Healing and Recovery
The postpartum period is a crucial phase after birth that is still too often underestimated. In these first few weeks, it’s not just about adjusting to life with your baby. It’s a time when the mother needs to heal and recover, a time for rest – both physically and emotionally. It’s essential to consciously acknowledge and take this period seriously to stay healthy and strong in the long term.
Camilla Rando, a doula and expert from CARÁ , shares five valuable tips with us on how to prepare for this special time.

Five Valuable Tips from Doula Camilla for Your Postpartum Period
1. Create your retreat space
My rule of thumb for the postpartum period is: one week in bed, and one around the bed. Nothing outside needs you, and nothing is more important than the first few weeks of settling in. Before the birth, prepare a few calm and cozy spots in your home where you can rest and relax. And if you feel ready in the third week, short walks are okay. But remember: your baby is also new to this world – give them time to adjust to this loud and colorful place.

2. Plan for daily support
In the first few weeks after giving birth, you need time and space to recover. Don’t hesitate to accept help from family, friends, a doula, or a postpartum caregiver. These people can help with household tasks, cook for you, or care for older siblings – allowing you to focus entirely on yourself and your baby. You can also check with your health insurance provider to see what kind of support they cover during this time!

3. Take time for emotional adjustment
Along with physical changes, the postpartum period is emotionally intense. Hormones, fatigue, and new responsibilities can feel overwhelming. It’s entirely normal to feel exhausted or unsure at times. Give yourself time to process these emotions and talk openly with your partner or someone you trust. It’s okay if everything doesn’t go perfectly from the start – the important thing is to be gentle with yourself and not set unrealistic expectations.

4. Eat nourishing and balanced meals
Your body needs a lot of nutrients now to heal and restore energy. Plan simple, nutritious meals before the birth that you can freeze. Soups, stews, or healthy snacks are easy to prepare and provide the energy you and your baby need. In our app, you’ll find many recipes and tips to help you prepare.
5. Listen to your body
Every woman’s postpartum experience is different. Your body will signal what it needs – listen to it. Rest when you’re tired, move gently if you feel up for it, and make sure to drink enough water. Remember: your body has accomplished something extraordinary, and it needs time to recover.
With these valuable tips from Camilla, you will be well-prepared for the postpartum phase and can embrace this time for what it truly is: a vital period of healing, growth, and bonding with your baby.
