ISOFIX technology is an international standard for car seat fitting, which locks your car seat or base onto metal clips in your vehicle seat.

i-Size is an EU safety regulation for child car seats and is intended to make car seats easier to use and safer for children in the event of a collision. This standard is only used for ISOFIX seats. i-Size seats are categorized based on height and not age. The Bugaboo Owl by Nuna can be used from birth (minimum 40 cm/15.75 in). With the adjustable headrest, it can be used until your child has reached 18 kg/40 lbs and 105 cm/41.3 in.

Children can ride forward-facing when they have reached 76 cm/29.9 in, until max. 105 cm/41.3 inches and 18 kg/40 lbs.

The UK law states that children must use a car seat until they are 12 years old or 135 cm tall, whichever comes first. In the US, all children must be properly restrained in a federally approved child safety seat appropriate for the child's age, weight and height up to eight years of age or 65 lbs, whichever comes first. Children who are at least 8 years of age or weigh 65 lbs but younger than 16 must be properly restrained in a vehicle's seat belt. In all EU countries, safety regulations R44 or R129/i-Size apply, which state that you must use a car seat with an approval label or sticker for the child's appropriate weight and height.

You will know when your child has outgrown their car seat once they've exceeded the car seat manufacturer's maximum height or weight indication for that car seat.

The two-hour rule is generally used by most car seat manufacturers. This means that your baby should not be in a car seat for more than two hours during a 24-hour period. When a baby is in a semi-upright position for more than two hours, it can cause strain on the baby's developing spine and restrict airflow to their lungs.

An infant car seat can only be used in a rear-facing position, with a typical height limit between 40 - 83 cm/15 - 33 in, a maximum weight of 13 kg/29 lbs, and for babies until approximately 15 months of age. A convertible car seat can be used in a rear-facing position as well as a forward-facing position depending on the child's height and weight. This is typically between 40 - 105 cm/15 - 41 in, a maximum weight of 18 kg/40 lbs, and until approximately 4 years old. The Bugaboo Owl by Nuna belongs to the convertible car seat category.
