The story of us

For more than 15 years, Bugaboo has inspired hundreds of thousands of parents to go out and explore the world with their children. Nowadays, it’s hard to imagine walking down the street without seeing a sturdy and smart looking stroller. However, in 1994 when Chief Design Officer at Bugaboo Max Barenbrug designed his stroller for his graduation at the Design Academy in Eindhoven, it was the first of its kind. The modular stroller, loaded with functionalities that could be used as easily in the city as in the woods, was a completely new concept at the time.

What followed were five years of perseverance and many trips to China and Taiwan as Barenbrug and his business partner Eduard Zanen sought a manufacturer that believed in the product as much as they did. It was only until they decided to take production into their own hands and start their own factory in 1999 that things really took off.

Today our products are sold in more than 50 countries around the world. As we continue to grow, we strive to inspire people with innovative yet timeless products that make life easier on the move. Nothing gives us a kick like a well-traveled Bugaboo with mud on its wheels and stories to tell.

Feel free, move free

We consider ourselves mobility concept creators. Max Barenbrug has always been fascinated by movement and personal transport; as a child, he spent hours and hours in his father's shed crafting and tinkering bicycles and later motorcycles and cars. “I’ve had a thing for wheels ever since I was a child. Wheels get you from A to B with this weightless, gliding sensation that just makes you feel free. That feeling of freedom — the sheer effortlessness of it — gives you energy, makes you happy, and empowers you to really go places. That’s the feeling we want to capture when we design our products. So we get really excited when we break through barriers and create game-changing products with unexpected functionalities that transform personal mobility. Coming up with designs that deliver this freedom of movement takes a lot of work. You have to be stubborn, and stick to your dreams. You can’t settle for anything less than a total “wow” experience — a product that does something so surprising, and so useful that people can just tell it’s going to make them look and feel good.”

"We like you to explore the world"

Our Design DNA

Bugaboo has always been a design company at heart. The Innovation Department, responsible for the development of new concepts and products and counting more than 70 employees to date, is the beating heart and the engine of the company. The original stroller, the Bugaboo Cameleon³, breathes the legacy of 15 years of Bugaboo design. Having evolved over time, the iconic all-in-one stroller remains unsurpassed with regards to its defining functionalities. Now all of our strollers, including the urban Bugaboo Bee, the convertible Bugaboo Donkey, the all-terrain Bugaboo Buffalo and the jogging Bugaboo Runner share the same Bugaboo design principles: design and engineering, aesthetics and functionality, form and function, have come together seamlessly.

Quality is our key business

Quality has always been at the core of Bugaboo, as we want our products to last whilst being used every day. To ensure the highest quality, we like to be in charge of the entire development and production process – from the first sketch to the final stroller. That is why Bugaboo works with its own factory in Xiamen, China. It is here that the Bugaboo testing facilities aim to go far beyond global quality standards. At Bugaboo’s Headquarters in Amsterdam, much is done in-house, from new concepts and product development to customer service. We also believe that working with a small group of trusted retailers means that we can build long-term relationships and guarantee the quality and service that Bugaboo stands for; this is what we call exclusivity without exclusion.
