How to get your stroller ready for winter
2018-11-01 - As the leaves continue to fall and you don your chunky knits, it’s time to get your wardrobe and stroller ready for winter adventures.
At Bugaboo, we know that parents like to get out and explore with their little ones whatever the weather. To make sure you can take on everything the coming season throws at you, we’ve put together some handy tips on getting your stroller ready for winter.
Stroller check-up before winter
Our strollers are designed to give you the smoothest ride all year round, so apart from adding the right accessories, you don’t need to carry out a big stroller check-up before winter. As always, you can carry out some standard checks to keep your child comfortable, like adjusting the suspension on your Bugaboo Cameleon3 or extending the seat on your Bugaboo Bee5 to suit your child’s age. You can also clean your wheels to keep them running smoothly — remove the wheels from the chassis and brush off any dirt or sand that might have made its way inside axle of the wheel. Use a brush and water to clean dirt on the wheels and make sure not submerge the wheel bearings in water.
If you live in an area with lots of snow or muddy trails, the Bugaboo Fox and Bugaboo Donkey2 have big wheels to ensure you keep on rolling. If you own a Bugaboo Cameleon3 you might want to switch your standard wheels for rough terrain wheels or use your stroller in the two-wheel position — see how it’s done here.
When you’re out and about in winter, the weather can change suddenly. Be prepared for unexpected downpours by checking you have your rain cover nearby — a handy place to store it for quick access is in your under-seat basket.
Stroller cover for winter
While your stroller’s rain cover will create a barrier for wind and rain, you’ll need a stroller cover for winter to provide warmth. The Bugaboo Footmuff can be easily attached to all Bugaboo strollers and is a must-have for parents when the temperature dips. If you own a Bugaboo Runner and are looking for jogging stroller covers for winter, the Bugaboo Footmuff is also compatible with your stroller. If you own a Bugaboo Donkey2 and need a double stroller cover for winter, you can use separate Bugaboo Footmuffs on each of your stroller’s seats.
For extreme conditions, our best stroller cover for winter is the Bugaboo High-Performance Footmuff. This version features a down-filled insert and detachable down-filled cover and a weather-proof coating and waterproof zip.
Stroller accessories for winter
Your child’s warmth, comfort and protection are the most important things to think about when heading out for a stroll during winter. Our stroller accessories for winter are designed with this in mind.
Once your child is using the stroller in the seat position, you might want to add a winter stroller blanket to the mix. The Bugaboo Soft Wool Blanket is made from Merino wool making it soft, breathable and temperature regulating. It’s the perfect accessory to use both on your stroller or at home.
In some parts of the world, an afternoon stroll during winter means strolling in the dark. In order to keep you visible, we’ve designed the Bugaboo Fox Stellar which provides 360° nighttime visibility from up to 150m away and features 3M™ Scotchlite™ Reflective Material on the wheel caps and the front and rear of the chassis. If you already own a Bugaboo stroller, we have a collection of reflective accessories that can make the perfect addition for the winter months.
