our responsibility

We believe that mobility, moving freely and every journey we make should respect our planet and the people on it.

our approach

We want everyone to move through the world freely and responsibly. Now, and in the future.

We've always made high-quality products from high-quality materials. And designed our products so that you can easily repair or refresh them, instead of throwing them away. Our goal is for all our designs to positively contribute to a sustainable and respectful world by 2025.

Below we share our six focus areas for operating as a responsible business and contributing to a better world.

1. product design

The longer a product lasts, the lower its environmental impact. That's why we design and build our products with a long life cycle in mind. We aim to make products that are built to last so they’re ready for their next journey. And the one after that.

just a few things we're doing:

  • Our products are modular in design, making it easy to service, refresh or replace parts.
  • We've started increasing our use of recycled materials. An example of this is the fabrics on the Bugaboo Fox which are made with recycled PET bottles.

2. sourcing & production

We want to make sure our products are manufactured and sourced sustainably, and produced under safe, fair and humane working conditions. That's why we’re always improving our social and environmental performance in our own factory and throughout our suppliers. We continuously work to increase the transparency and traceability of our entire supply chain.

Bugaboo Factory

just a few things we're doing:

  • Our own factory allows us to oversee all aspects of production and uphold our safe, fair and humane working conditions, as per our ISO9001ISO14001 and SA8000 certifications.
  • Collaboration is key to creating a sustainable supply chain and in early 2018 we held our first Bugaboo Chinese Supplier Summit.
  • With our Responsible Chemical Management Policy we promote responsible usage of hazardous substances and their reduction in our processes and end products.
  • Since 2017, we have been a member of the SAC and will actively use their HIGG index in order to assess the sustainability performance of ourselves and our suppliers.

3. impact

From our own factory in Xiamen to our packaging, logistics, offices, stores and warehouses, we look for ways to minimise our environmental impact.

just a few things we're doing:

  • Setting up global packaging guidelines in order to minimise waste and work towards zero impact packaging.
  • This year we are focused on minimsing our product waste stream.
  • We are officially committed to setting science-based emission reduction targets, via the Science Based Targets initiative.

4. smarter business concepts

Business innovation can help extend the life cycle of our products. We are exploring innovative business models that take care of our products and consumers responsibly.

People brainstorming

just a few things we're doing:

  • In 2015, we piloted the Bugaboo Flex plan: a leasing program of our prams. Based on the outcome, we are exploring the potential for similar programs in the future.
  • We are exploring closed-loop manufacturing systems. Between 2013 and 2017, we did this through the ResCoM project funded by the European Commission.
  • We look into ways of extending the life cycle of our materials. Since 2017, we have worked with Little Boomerang to repurpose our high-quality scrap material.

5. our people

We are as proud of our people as we are of our products. Our ambition is to provide an inspiring, open and vibrant working environment for all our employees worldwide.

just a few things we're doing:

  • We've implemented a global code of conduct to promote inclusion, diversity and our positive contribution to a sustainable and respectful world.
  • We have a group of ambassadors who initiate cleanups, organise inspirational talks and movies and help to promote different topics throughout the company.

6. in the community

We want to advocate for people whose freedom of movement is challenged because of the effect of disability, disease, poverty or conflict. In addition we support non-profit organisations that inspire the next generation to create inventive solutions for a sustainable world. We do this by offering donations or taking part in volunteer work.

Children brainstorming

just a few things we're doing:

  • We encourage all employees to take part in volunteering programs. Every Bugaboo employee receives one day which they can spend volunteering for a project of their choice. We facilitate this via an interactive platform where Bugaboo employees from around the globe can initiate and sign up to projects.
  • Since 2016, we have donated 213 prams and many winter accessories to the Kara Tepe refugee camp in Lesbos, in cooperation with our partner Movement on the Ground.
  • Since 2017, we have supported the non-profit organisation Designathon Works. They have developed a unique design thinking method to unleash children's creativity, empowering them to design a better world.
  • Our global offices make regular product donations to local hospitals and support different local charities. For example, our US office participated in OCRFA's Super Saturday.

always looking for better ways to do the things we already do

by making conscious choices

Never ceasing our efforts. And continuously improving everything we do. Simplifying, reinventing and perfecting what really matters. From prams to luggage systems to whatever comes next. One example is in our latest product: the Bugaboo Fox fabrics have been produced using yarn made from recycled PET bottles.
