lead engineer Location: amsterdam, the netherlands At Bugaboo, a Lead Engineer leads global engineering teams to deliver validated engineering solutions and product definitions that should fit the strict concept requirements as delivered by the design department, with high focus on product quality, manufacturability and time to market. The Lead engineer reports operationally to a project manager, and functionally to the Global Engineering Manager.
the following tasks apply to the job - End to end responsibility to lead all engineering activities in a Bugaboo NCD/NPD project, from phase 2/3 until hand over to the sustaining team.
- Quality of the engineer work package & product.
- Define the Engineering work package based on standard NCD/NPD process and POR ( program of requirements).
- Ensure that the engineer deliverables are prepared to satisfy the project requirements, cost and schedule
- Coordinate the review, presentation, handover and release of system layouts, drawings, analysis and other documentation
- Manage integrity of end product and interfaces between subsystems.
- Make major engineering decisions within the agreed POR and Quality framework
- Lead the global engineer project team members to satisfy engineering results.
- Create an environment oriented to trust, open communication, creative thinking and cohesive team effort
- Provide the engineering team with a clear vision of the engineering project objectives.
- Prepare engineering NL team member appraisals
- Coach and help develop engineering team members and assure that the engineering team members have the necessary education and training to effectively participate on the team
- Follow and implement actively NCD/NPD and engineering policies and methods as agreed with Engineering Management.
- Work with lead designer to create or improve technical (sub)system concepts that conform to design specifications, production requirements, legal rules and compliance.
- Satisfying cooperation with design, marketing, compliance and operations departments
- Work with project management to deliver the engineering workpakcage on time and in full
- Delegate, Plan and control the engineering work and engineering resources in detail
- Provide on time status reporting of engineering team activities against the program plan or schedule
- Escalate issues which cannot be resolved by the team
- Satisfying cooperation with PM
- Communicating technical information with and giving technical assignments to product engineering Asia, such as purchasing parts & samples, mould making, research for new materials and suppliers
- Product is accomplished with everything needed to realize it for production.
- Satisfying cooperation with PE-Asia and suppliers.
- Evaluates technical feasibility of design concepts, based on factors such as appearance, safety, functionality, serviceability, production method, assembly and cost in order to translate the concept in a 3D definition and supplementary specification
- Timely reporting of monthly progress and expenses
- Quality of engineering files and specifications
- Traveling to production locations to discuss directly with suppliers, factory and toolmakers about technical feasibility of parts and production methods
- Satisfying cooperation with suppliers and toolmakers

requirements - Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering.
- At least 3 years experience in leading global product development teams as lead engineer or team leader in an innovative environment,
- At least 2 years of experience in working with Asia.
- Experience with engineering validation (FMEA, DFMA), testing and regional compliance.
- Excellent leadership and social skills
- Has the ability to be a team leader as well as a team member, is a strong communicator and has motivation skills.
- Detailed knowledge of production techniques (technical plastics properties, injection moulding, basic metal production techniques) and engineering of complex constructions in plastic and metal.
- Understanding tolerance analyses & calculations for strength en stiffness of parts.
- Is hands-on, creative and energetic.
- Is disciplined, well organized and structured, and has a balanced drive for quality, result and time to market.
- Understanding of product stage/gate development processes.
- Aware of and behaving to multi-language and multi-cultural environments.
- Able to collaborate with design department and make effective trade-offs which minimize the impact of the creative concept and/or outlook.
- Is willing to spend multiple month periods in China when needed
